Den 1 maj 2026 uppmärksammades av organisationen Irlandinformation genom aktiviteter i både Göteborg och Stockholm.
I båda städerna hängdes banderoller upp till stöd för den republikanska fången Niall Sheerin, som fortsatt sitter fängslad trots att han har avtjänat sitt straff.
Aktionen knöt därmed an till en återkommande kritik från solidaritetsrörelser mot hur republikanska fångar behandlas.

I såväl Göteborg som Stockholm lade organisationen även ned blommor vid minnesplatser för de Spanienfrivilliga – de svenskar som deltog i det spanska inbördeskriget och som stred och offrade allt i kampen mot fascismen.
Genom att lyfta fram deras historia ville organisationen sätta in dagens politiska engagemang i ett längre historiskt sammanhang.
På de blommor som nedlades fanns även band med organisationens paroll för året: Alltid mot fascismen.
Budskapet återkom i manifestationerna och knöt samman minnet av de Spanienfrivilliga med nutida politiska ställningstaganden

On May 1, 2026, the organization Irlandinformation marked the day through activities in both Gothenburg and Stockholm.
In both cities, banners were hung in support of the republican prisoner Niall Sheerin, who remains imprisoned despite having served his sentence.
The action thus connected to a recurring criticism from solidarity movements regarding the treatment of republican prisoners.

In both Gothenburg and Stockholm, the organization also laid flowers at memorial sites dedicated to the Spanish volunteers — the Swedes who took part in the Spanish Civil War and who fought and sacrificed everything in the struggle against fascism.
By highlighting their history, the organization sought to place today’s political engagement within a broader historical context.
The flowers that were laid were also adorned with ribbons bearing the organization’s slogan for the year: Always against fascism.
The message was repeated throughout the demonstrations, linking the memory of the Spanish volunteers with contemporary political positions.
