Statement from Irlaninformation’s annual Ard Fheis:
Comrades, the Swedish Ireland Information Group send you our best wishes for the coming year. Our solidarity with the freedom struggle in Ireland, the struggle for the Republic and the fight against the British imperialism, remains steadfast. The situation in Ireland, north and south, has, during the year more and more, made visible the correctness of the republican position. In the north, the Stormont-twins argue about symbolic questions, made life- important, when unemployment is rising, sectarianism spreads and poverty is endemic. What matters for them seems to be to act as they are ruling. While they got to keep their salaries it doesn´t seem that they care if others don´t. A lot of noise is being made about the Brexit, so we guess the new view the provos have of the Republic is the free market. In the South the fat cats are getting fatter and the people are getting poorer. The situation for the sick, the elderly, the homeless is terrible. In the Free State there is a gang of criminals ruling, calling people who protest for criminals. A classic way of diverting guilt.
150 years ago The Irish Republican Brotherhood rose in rebellion, proclaiming the Republic. In their Proclamation they wrote: “All men are born with equal rights, and in associating to protect one another and share public burdens, justice demands that such associations should rest upon a basis which maintains equality instead of destroying it…….Our war is against the aristocratic locusts, whether English or Irish, who have eaten the verdure of our fields – against the aristocratic leeches who drain… our fields….”
That was the words of “the bold fenian men”. Those words are as valid today as they were then.
