Easter Statement 2021
I år är det 105 år sedan det ärorika påskupproret. Arvet efter James Connolly, Patrick Pearse och de andra revolutionärerna lever vidare än i våra dagar. Revolutionen är fortfarande oavslutad och den kommer förbli oavslutad till dess att brittiska staten lämnar Irland.
När Pearse och en 1 600 man stark republikansk armé tog kontrollen över centrala Dublin skakades det brittiska imperiet i grunden. I och med upproret antogs proklamationen för den irländska republiken. I proklamationen kan vi bland annat läsa: ”Standing on that fundamental right and again asserting it in arms in the face of the world, we hereby proclaim the Irish Republic as a Sovereign Independent State, and we pledge our lives and the lives of our comrades-in-arms to the cause of its freedom, of its welfare, and of its exaltation among the nations.”
I och med Brexit har konflikten åter aktualiserats i de sex grevskapen. Lojalistiska grupper har meddelat att man inte längre står bakom vapenvilan som man accepterade i och med långfredagsavtalet. Under det senaste året har det även varit tydligt hur den brittiska militären intensifierat sin närvaro i både Belfast och Derry. Under Coronakrisen har också den brittiska statens repression varit extra hård. Nedstängningen av stora och betydande delar av samhället har försvårat såväl protester som fångsolidariskt arbete.
Föreningen Irlandinformation känner djup solidaritet med våra kamrater på Irland. Vi kommer oförtröttligt att upprätthålla vårt stöd och vår verksamhet till dess målen från proklamationen 1916 uppnåtts och till dess Irland är en självständig, socialistisk republik.
Vi minns påskupproret, och vi hedrar det med fortsatt kamp för den republik som då proklamerades!

Easter Statement 2021
This year marks 105 years since the glorious Easter uprising. The legacy of James Connolly, Patrick Pearse and the other revolutionaries lives on today. The revolution is still unfinished and will remain unfinished until the British state leaves Ireland.
When Pearse and a 1,600-strong Republican army took control over central Dublin, the British Empire was fundamentally shaken. With the uprising, the Proclamation of the Irish Republic was adopted. In the proclamation we can read, among other things: “Standing on that fundamental right and again asserting it in arms in the face of the world, we hereby proclaim the Irish Republic as a Sovereign Independent State, and we pledge our lives and the lives of our comrades -in-arms to the cause of its freedom, of its welfare, and of its exaltation among the nations.”
With Brexit, the conflict has resurfaced in the six counties. Loyalist groups have announced that they No longer stands behind the ceasefire that was accepted with the Good Friday agreement. Over the past year, it has also been clear how the British military has intensified its presence in both Belfast and Derry. During the Corona crisis, the repression of the British state has also been particularly severe. The closure of large and significant parts of society has made protests and prisoner solidarity work more difficult.
The Ireland Information Group of Sweden expresses its deep sympathy with our comrades in Ireland. We will tirelessly maintain our support and our activities until the goals of the proclamation of 1916 are achieved and until Ireland is an independent, socialist republic.
We remember the Easter uprising, and we honor it with continued struggle for the republic that was then proclaimed!
