Första maj-uttalande från Irlandinformation:
Idag är det Första maj, en av årets viktigaste dagar. Dagen är viktig för oss i Irlandinformation eftersom vi, likt våra irländska kamrater, anser att klasskampen är central för människans befrielse. För det irländska folket har kampen mot kolonialismen och kapitalismen varit livsnödvändig. Under flera hundra år har britterna försökt ta vad som inte är deras. De har gjort det med våld och de har gjort det med parlamentariska metoder. Oavsett vilka metoder som stått till buds för upprätthållandet av den brittiska ockupationen har det varit fråga om att behålla privilegier för den lojalistiska gruppen. Ockupationen av de sex grevskapen har medfört en av de grövsta uttrycken för klasspolitik som vi har skådat i Europa. Så är det fortfarande.
Det är ingen slump att de flesta av de befrielserörelser som arbetar på Irland idag har en socialistisk eller kommunistisk grundinställning. Kampen handlar inte bara om att befria Irland, utan också om att skapa ett samhälle för alla. James Connolly förklarade det med att ”[d]et irländska folket kommer aldrig vara fritt, förrän de äger allt från plogen till stjärnorna”, och att även om den brittiska armén skickas ut och flaggan över Dublin Castle byts till den gröna är det förgäves utan skapandet av den socialistiska republiken då folket ändå inte kommer vara fritt utan styras av ”kapitalisterna, hyresmagnaterna, finansiärerna och hela samlingen av kommersiella och individualistiska institutioner”. Samma sak gäller för arbetarklassen världen över.
Vi i Irlandinformation brukar informera och minnas de martyrer som stupat för Irlands frihet på deras dödsdagar, idag minns vi Haymarketmartyrerna och alla andra kämpar världen över som stupat för den internationella arbetarklassens, och mänsklighetens, befrielse.

First of May statement from the Ireland Information Group of Sweden:
Today is the first of May, one of the most important days of the year. The day is important to us in the Ireland Information Group because we, like our Irish comrades, believe that class struggle is central to human liberation. For the Irish people, the struggle against colonialism and capitalism has been vital. For hundreds of years, the British imperial powers have tried to take what is not theirs. They have done so with violence and they have done so with parliamentary methods. Regardless of the methods used to maintain the British occupation, it has been a matter of retaining privileges for the loyalist group. The occupation of the six counties has resulted in one of the most profound expressions of class policy we have seen in Europe. It still is.
It is no coincidence that most of the liberation movements working in Ireland today have a socialist or communist point of view. It’s not just about liberating Ireland, but also about creating a society for everyone. James Connolly declared that ”the Irish people will only be free, when they own everything from the plough to the stars” and that even if “you remove the English army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organization of the Socialist Republic your efforts would be in vain. England would still rule you. She would rule you through her capitalists, through her landlords, through her financiers, through the whole array of commercial and individualist institutions she has planted in this country and watered with the tears of our mothers and the blood of our martyrs.” The same goes for the working class all over the world.
We in the Ireland Information Group usually inform and remember the martyrs who died for the freedom of Ireland on their day of death, today we urge everyone to remember the Haymarket martyrs and all other heroes from around the world who have given the greatest sacrifice for the cause of workers liberation.
