Åter till Irland!
I och med coronarestriktionernas lättande kunde Irlandinformation åter genomföra sin traditionsenliga påskresa till Irland. Där deltog organisationens delegation i de årliga manifestationerna till minne av påskupproret 1916, samt för alla de republikaner som stupat i kampen sedan dess.
Resan inleddes i Dublin, där en mindre minnesstund med ca 2-300 deltagare hölls för de utländska volontärer som stupade i kampen för Irlands sak 1916.
Efter manifestationen träffade delegationen från Irlandinformation representanter för IRPWA, som arbetar med stöd för fängslade republikaner samt för dessas familjer. Till IRPWA överlämnades en donation på 2000 euro (lite drygt 20.000 svenska kronor), som går till att på olika sätt underlätta situationen för de republikaner som förlorat sin frihet i kampen.
Resan fortsatte sedan till Belfast på söndagen för deltagande i diverse sociala aktiviteter med olika republikaner, och sen vidare till Derry på måndagen.
I Derry deltog Irlandinformations delegation på det republikanska partiet Saoradhs årliga marsch för att hedra de som stupade under påskupproret, där tusentals aktiva republikaner och sympatisörer deltog. Påskmarscherna avslutas alltid med en nedläggning av kranser för de som har stupat, och även Irlandinformation nedlade här en krans. När marschen hade avslutats och deltagarna skulle lämna kyrkogården angreps de av polis, som försökte gripa de personer som burit uniform.
Detta ledde till sammandragningar mellan polis och republikanskt sinnade ungdommar från Derry, som ingrep för att försvara påskfirarna från den brittiska polisens angrepp.
Senare på kvällen deltog den svenska delegationen på Saoradhs stora påskfest, där de kunde träffa och diskutera med ännu fler republikanska aktivister, samtidigt som såväl republikanska tubadurer som marchorkestrar uppträdde.
Tisdagen spenderades med att bland annat besöka Museum of Free Derry, samt att ytterligare se och lära om staden och dess långa republikanska historia.
Delegationen kunde sedan återvända till Sverige med ny kunskap och inspiration att använda i solidaritetsarbetet.
Back to Ireland!
With the easing of coronary restrictions the Ireland information group of Sweden carry out their traditional Easter trip to Ireland. There, the delegation participated in the annual manifestations in memory of the Easter uprising of 1916, as well as for all the Republicans who have fallen in the struggle since then.
The trip began in Dublin, where a small memorial service with about 2-300 participants was held for the foreign volunteers who fell in the fight for the cause of Ireland in 1916.
Following the rally, the Irish Information Delegation met with representatives of the IRPWA, who works to support imprisoned Republicans and their families. A donation of 2,000 euros (a little over 20,000 Swedish kronor) was handed over to IRPWA, which goes to alleviate the situation in various ways for the Republicans who have lost their freedom in the struggle.
The trip then continued to Belfast on Sunday for participation in various social activities with various Republicans, and then on to Derry on Monday.
In Derry, the Irish Information Delegation participated in the annual march of the Republican Party Saoradh to honor those who fell during the Easter uprising, attended by thousands of active Republicans and sympathizers. The Easter marches always end with a laying of wreaths for those who have fallen, and Ireland Information also laid a wreath here. When the march had ended and the participants were about to leave the cemetery, they were attacked by police, who tried to arrest the people who had wore uniforms.
This led to confrontations between police and Republican-minded youth from Derry, who intervened to defend the Easter celebrations from British police attacks.
Later in the evening, the Swedish delegation participated in Saoradh’s big Easter party, where they could meet and discuss with even more Republican activists, at the same time as both Republican troubadours and marching bands performed.
Tuesday was spent visiting the Museum of Free Derry, as well as further take a look around the city and learning about its long Republican history.
The delegation was then able to return to Sweden with new knowledge and inspiration to use in the solidarity work.
